Ayrıca diş sıkma veya gıcırdatma alışkanlığı bulunan bireylerde de görülebilir. Bu bireylerde baş ağrısı, yüz kaslarında ve çiğneme esnasında meydana gelen ağrı eklem probleminin önemli habercisidir. Ağız açmada kısıtlılık, çiğneme sırasında eklemden ses gelmesi, çene çıkması gibi durumlar ileri eklem problemlerinde karşılaşılabilecek durumlardır. Diş sıkma ve gıcırdatma problemi olan vakalarda yapılacak splintler ile ileride oluşabilecek daha büyük problemler önlenebilir. Bunula beraber kullanılan eklem splintiyle tedavi de  daha hızlı sonuçlar alındığı birçok çalışmayla kanıtlanmıştır.
